3 DAYS - THE WEEKEND GETAWAY

What you'll do

Here is your guide to an epic weekend full of beauty, tasty food and stunning experiences. This is our selection of favorite places in Lisbon that are focused on what you must see during a weekend in the city of colourful tiles and yellow trams.

This means a lot of incredible food, breathtaking viewpoints and since we used to live here we will of course share some hidden gems and local spots.

For this weekend you should bring some comfortable shoes and a huge appetite because we will be doing a lot of walking and eating.

Day 1

To start the day, you should grab a coffee to go from Simply (2) and bring it to your first spot on the list (3). This viewpoint is amazing and gives you an idea of the city. After updating your social media here, you can take a stroll on the stunning Avenue (4) where you can get your shopping on if you like fancy stuff. Avenida Liberdade runs all the way down to the square (5), Praca do Comercio, which we have as the next stop. This is the pulse of Lisbon and one of the most beautiful places to see.

Now it is time for a treat. At As Bifanas do Afonso (6), here you have to order a Bifana and stuff it with mustard. It is best enjoyed with an ice-cold beer.

Now we continue the walk up to Castelo de Sao Jorge but on our way, take a look at the smallest library in the world (7). Hopefully, it is open, you never know. Head up the stairs and make your way to the next spot (8), where you can order one of the absolute best Pastel de Natas in town. Now, with a belly full of food, head up to the Castle (9). If you want to spend 15€ on entry, you can enjoy amazing views from the inside but if not, just walk the street in the castle on your way to the next point on the list.

Now, the Alfama walk starts, and we start with the most important monument of Lisbon, the Sé church (10). There is an amazing viewpoint near the church that you should take a look at before continuing up to our favorite viewpoint in Alfama (11). Here, there is always nice live music and a cozy vibe, but this is also where we head deep into the narrow hilly streets of Alfama. When reaching the National Pentagon (12), you are in the neighborhood we fell in love with when we visited Lisbon for the first time (13). Enjoy the surroundings at the area where you’ll have a super low-key and traditional lunch. This place is as Portuguese as it gets, and we love it.

(14) Get lost in the streets of Alfama during sunset and enjoy a nice dinner at one of the last two points on the list (15) and (16). At the last place, you can sit and enjoy a free Fado show with your dinner, but remember to book in advance as they are very popular.

Our Go-To Lisbon Hotel!

OBS! Use the code "STAYCLASSY" and get 12% off your entire stay here!

Here we have our go-to hotel. You are welcomed by the greatest people who remember your name and act like family yet professional.

We love staying in this area right next to Avenida Liberdade. That is because it's a nice flat location and in the middle of everything, without being so busy that you get dizzy.

The hotel itself is incredible and the rooms have (hands down) the BEST hotel beds we have ever slept in, which alone is reason enough for us to come back again and again. Never underestimate a good night's sleep.

The service is great and they also have incredible spa and gym facilities as well as an indoor pool.

They also have a stunning rooftop and a breakfast buffet to die for. Usually we would gain a kilo or two just staying here a weekend, but it's worth it!

If you are staying here for a special occasion, please do yourself a favor and order the in-room breakfast on your balcony. It is simply fantastic.

Eduardo VII Park

Amazing Lisbon Viewpoint

This park is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and beautiful views. We used to walk here every evening when we first moved to Lisbon. The park offers a great place for a morning walk, and during Christmas, it transforms into a charming Christmas market that is definitely worth visiting.

Avenida da Liberdade

The Street of Luxury Shopping!

This is your oyster if you're looking for high-end luxury brands. You'll find everything from Cartier, Rolex, and TOD'S to Gucci, Montblanc and Saint Laurent, but we usually just walk this street window shopping and sit down for a nice cup of coffee or an ice-cold beer.

The thing is that this whole avenue is just stunning. It's very beautiful with the many trees and beautiful architecture. We've even been dancing salsa here at one of the kiosks that offers salsa dancing and live music on weekends during the summer.

Besichtigung

Praça do Comércio

Lisbon's Main Square

This huge riverfront square is one of the biggest in Lisbon. It is known to be one of the most famous spots in the city and with good reason.

The beautiful palace framing the square was refurbished after big parts of the original palace were destroyed in the disastrous earthquake and flooding in 1755. Today it is hard to even understand what a great job they did rebuilding the large palace.

The square offers many cafes and restaurants, but we don't recommend sitting in any of them as they are often overpriced and do not serve food of very good quality. If you insist stick to a beverage of choice, but expect tourist prices.

6

Restaurant

As Bifanas do Afonso

Authentic Portuguese Street Food

This is THE place to get a Bifana. The pride of Portuguese street food. We love these sandwiches, which are basically Portugal's answer to what represents an American hamburger.

There is no other place in Lisbon where we would go to eat a Bifana, and most locals agree.

This sandwich is filled with slow-cooked pork. You can add chili sauce and mustard to it if you like, but no matter how you enjoy it, it's a treat for sure.

Also, we would recommend you to enjoy it with a Sagres Beer.

National Pantheon

17th century marvel

The National Pantheon in Lisbon, also known as the Church of Santa Engrácia, is a grand baroque building located in the historic neighborhood of Alfama. It is a National Monument of Portugal and is known for its striking architecture and historical significance.

The Pantheon was originally built as a church in the 17th century but was later converted into a pantheon to honor the country's most prominent figures. It houses the tombs of some of Portugal's most famous historical figures such as explorers Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral, and poets Luís de Camões and Fernando Pessoa.

The most striking feature of the Pantheon is its dome, which is the largest unsupported dome in the world. Visitors can climb to the top of the dome to enjoy panoramic views of the city.

The Pantheon is also home to a small museum that exhibits some of the tombs and the history of the church.

Overall, the National Pantheon is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the history and culture of Portugal. It offers a great opportunity to learn about the country's most prominent figures and admire the beautiful baroque architecture.

Alfama

Must do!

Here is something you have to do in Lisbon. You have to get lost in the narrow old streets of the hilly neighborhood of Alfama!

Alfama is a charming neighborhood in the heart of Lisbon, known for its narrow streets, historic architecture, and lively atmosphere.

The neighborhood is located on the hillside just east of the city center and is home to many traditional Portuguese restaurants and bars.

You can explore the winding streets lined with colorful buildings and experience the local culture. One of the highlights of the neighborhood is the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, a viewpoint offering stunning views of the city and the Tejo River. Alfama is also home to the Se Cathedral and the National Pantheon, two important historical landmarks.

Overall, Alfama is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Lisbon, as it offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and vibrant culture.

When you do your Alfama walk wear some nice shoes because you are gonna walk up and down a lot. But don't worry you find plenty of nice bars and cut restaurant to cool down and get a beer of a glass of wine.

Alfama is the reason we fell in love with Lisbon and it happened as we walked the many streets, spoke to the locals and soaked in the authentic Portuguese atmosphere.

The video we shared is from the biggest Party in Portugal. Its called Santo Antonio festival and we think it shows what Alfama is to perfection.

Cafe

Casa São Miguel

Dog friendly cake heaven

Casa São Miguel is one of the cutest cafés in all of LIsbon. This tiny hole in the wal is decorated in cute old school french interior.

The inviting colors and playful vibe makes you wanna stay all day. We usually come here for some nice tea or a latte paired with a nice piece of freshly baked cake. However they also do amazing lunch and dinner foods inspired by the french kitchen.

Here they invite you to bring your dog which gives the whole place a very cozy and friendly feel
