Weekend stay Copenhagen
What you'll do
This weekend is packed with all our personal must see places in Copenhagen for a first time visitor. We have left out all the nonsense tourists trapped and cut straight into the bone of good style, incredible food and authentic Danish culture.
We are giving you a lot of our favourite local spots but we are also not leaving out some of the most important sightseeing in Copenhagen
We have focused on Spring, summer and fall in this guide although many of the attractions can be visited all year around.
You will be walking a lot in this stunning city so bring ice shoes and don't leave your camera and appetite at home because this is gonna be a beautiful weekend with lots of good food and drinks.
Day 1
Hotel
Axel Guldsmeden Hotel
Luxurious eco hotels
Here is one of our favorite hotels of all time. Axel Guldsmed is a part of the Guldsmed Hotels group.
The hotel houses around 200 rooms yet you get the feeling of staying at a cozy boutique hotel.
Axel Guldsmed is also an Eco hotel meaning that they value sustainability. This shows throughout the whole hotel as you are eating organic food and all amenities are organic too.
We love to stay here for the breakfast table alone so this probably is the best breakfast you can in Denmark. Especially if you want a healthy solution or appreciate vegetarian or vegan options in high quality.
Besichtigung
Meatpacking District, Copenhagen
Hip meatpacking destrict
This is the old meatpacking district of Copenhagen. It used to be solely industrial companies but today it is almost a cultural hop with national and international food experiences, Pr-agencies, , media bureaus, art galleries and quirky stores.
You come here to get the best cozy atmosphere as well as good food and lots of drinks. Especially during the warmer months this place is packed with happy people.
This is located in one of the most hip neighborhoods Vesterbro, which is why there are also many things to see and do in the surroundings.
The meatpacking district is divided into two. "The old brown meatpacking district" which is very cool and authentic looking with its old brown buildings and the new white and blue zones which is the most visited.
We recommend you to get lost by walking around both areas. You'll find lots of hidden history in this area which is fun to explore.
Restaurant
Gaza Grill Kødbyen
Middle Eastern Food Heaven
You might not think of Arabic food when you visit Denmark but Arabic food is actually a big deal in Copenhagen due to a great Middle Eastern population.
One of our absolute favorite food experiences in Copenhagen has been at this Organic Palestinian restaurant.
Staff is lovely, food is crazy delicious and the whole atmosphere is vibrant because the restaurant is located in the cultural hub of The meatpacking district in the neighborhood of Vesterbro.
Go overboard in yummy Arabic food and tasty fizzy cocktails all sourced from organic ingredients.
Restaurant
Elmegade 23
Delicious Eatable Souvenir
If you want to experience the secret pride and a big part of the Danish culture that few people would tell you about, this is it. The Bland-selv-slik or translated Self mixed candy is a thing to try.
Both kids and adults go to these kinds of candy stores to mix a huge delicious bag of self selected candy for the weekend.
We Danes have a big sweet tooth but this candy concept also takes a big part in our “ritual” of “Hygge”
Every time we go to Denmark, we mix the biggest bag possible to bring back home to Portugal and we have realized over the years that it is the best shareable souvenir to bring back to friends or family.

Tivoli Gardens
Amusement park
Tivoli gardens locally know just as Tivoli is the third oldest amusement park in the world and the charm and history is to be found in every little corner of this super central Copenhagen amusement park.
While it is super fun to use the many action packed activities in the park it is also stunning to stroll around the beautiful gardens and landscape itself.
You’ll also find several theaters here and most importantly amazing cuisine. Everything from fast food to fine dining is top notch here.
For us this amusement park brings back memories of the happiest days in our childhood.
Every Friday there is a free concert and sometimes even with big international artists. During Christmas this place is glowing with the most wonderful Christmas light and decorations as well as stunning fireworks.
Visit during Halloween and get scared out of your mind while enjoying the beautiful yet scary decoration here.

This colorful building is actually a cinema. We suggest that you have quick stroll inside but it's a great place to take photo for your Instagram due to the many colors on the building facade.
Besichtigung
Ørstedsparken
An important park in Copenhagen.
Here is another breathing pulse of Copenhagen. Ørstedsparken is a nice park located centrally in Copenhagen.
But what is interesting and odd about this place is its history. Because this used to be a hook up place for homosexuals.
They would go to the park and make love to like minded in the bushes of the park. After many years of general social acceptance of homosexuality in Denmark this is ofc not happening anymore, but its strange to think of a time where people had to go these length to find love or (what not) in this park.
Today you find families and coffee dates all over the park and the only real history you'll find here today are the many beautiful bronze statues.
Restaurant
Level Six
Cocktails, great food and good views
Level six is one of the coolest cocktail bars in Copenhagen and it’s even located on top of a central building next to Nørrebro station.
From their rooftop to get some stunning views to the center of the city.
They serve amazing cocktails and are open even when it's chilly providing you blankets to keep warm.
We have however only visited during peak summer. Er also ate their and food is great too.
