Caumasee

Jewel of Switzerland

I love Caumasee a lot and by now many people know that this lake is a true gem in the Swiss alps. It is also called the “jewel of Flims”.

Swimming, chilling out or sunbathing. Whether you’re travelling by foot or by bike, a stop at this magnificent lake is the perfect addition to your trip. It is surrounded by forest on three sides, and contains a wooded island in the centre of the lake where you can relax in complete tranquillity. Particularly breathtaking is the turquoise-coloured and cool water

🕑 Opening hours: 8 am to 5.30 pm 💵 Entrance fee: adults CHF 19.—/ kids CHF 9.50 🍝 Restaurant entry is free & open from 8 am to 5 pm 🏊‍♀️ Activities to do: Standup Paddling, pedalos, beach volleyball

Photography tips: In summer lake Caume is very good visited, meaning that it can get very crowded on sunny days. Therefore, you should either come early in the morning or rather avoid high season. If you visit in early spring or late summer/autumn you'll not have to pay an entrance fee anymore :) I'll highly recommend you not to stop at the escalator but rather walk a little further to the bench, the view is fantastic! Further, you should go for walk around the lake as there are many lovely places to stop and admire the lake reflection!

Rheinschlucht

Gorge

This is the beautiful so called "Swiss Grand Canyon". The spot can be reached on your hike from Flims, Caumasee or also from Crestasee. I recommend you to do the round hike starting at Flims Caumasee and then always following the signs for "Conn" (it is the name of the Restaurant and the area where the platform is. It takes about 50 minutes to arrive

Once you are in Conn you go past the restaurant (or have a drink first) and then after 5 minutes you'll reach the platform "Il Spir". Really worth it, since you can enjoy the view over the canyon which is so impressive. Maybe you also see a red train in the valley making its way along the river.

From there you can go the same way back or what I would recommend to continue towards Crestasee and go for a swim there. Afterwards you can follow the indications towards Flims or take the bus back to the village.

Full circle hike: Duration: 2:40h Distance 9.1km Ascent: 255m Descent: 252m

Hotel

Riders Hotel

beautiful Hotel with Matterhorn view

The Riders Hotel is a place where everyone is welcome — creative, unique and with a family atmosphere The rooms take up the modern and contemporary style of the hotel and create a balance between design and nature in a special way.

The Riders has a clear promise of sustainability and with its concept is a pioneer in the catering and hotel industry. The strategy is: REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE. Interior: The furniture has a vintage flair and for example the bar stools are covered with an upcycled carpet. In addition, the bed sheets are made of linen obtained from sustainable sources

Energy: Other sustainability aspects are less prominent or visible to the guests. The hotel commits to maximum energy efficiency and uses the energy from the water reservoir for 15 years already. In addition, there is a photovoltaic system on the roof, which also contributes to the hotel being CO2 neutral.

Food Waste: The food waste programme with the Startup Kitro is very exemplary. It measures the amount of food thrown away and to optimise the handling of food. In this way, quantities can be adjusted, less food can be purchased and produced and therefore fewer emissions are created. But most importantly - the food ends up on your plate and not in the trash.

Beauty: The hotel rooms are equipped with soaps and shower products from Soeder, and disinfectants from the Zurich-based company can also be found in heavily frequented places such as elevators and toilets. The products are natural and 100% biodegradable.

Crestasee

Beautiful mountain lake for Swimming

Crestasee is my absolutely favorite lake and for that in any season. Summer is beautiful for swimming, sunbathing and having barbeque. Autumn and winter are uniquely peaceful for long forest walks or hikes. And spring is the season when nature is truly colorful. When you visit the lake I'd recommend you to not stop at the public picknick space but rather have your exploration walk around and then take rest in your favorite spot. Directions: By bus: Take the Regio line from Chur mainstation and hop off at Felsbach/ Crestasee. From there it is indicated and an easy 10-15 minutes walk takes you to the lake By car: You have several options to park. The first parking (Trin Parking Nr.3) is the farthest away but you'll reach Crestasee in 40-50 Minutes. Of course you can drive also to the next parking lot and there you'll only have 15-20 minutes to the lake.

Remember: the trail is very easily to follow :)

Photography tips: Crestasee is very beautiful for sunrise or for sunset too (but make sure to arrive min. 2 hrs earlier to sunset because the lake is well hidden in the forest and therefore is earlier in the shade.). The most prominent spot is definitely the footbridge but also if you continue from there on the right shore, you'll get many other lovely viewpoints with beautiful reflections. The old island with the tree lies also on that side.
